American Kestrel House
The Amador Co Kestrel House is built to attract and house the American Kestrel during nesting season. Kestrel is the most common falcon in North America and hunts large insects and rodents in open areas with short ground vegetation and sparse trees, both in rural and suburban environments. According to the literature, Peregrine Falcons and Merlins both nested in tree cavities until the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries when most of the great trees were felled. Now the only falcon that regularly nests in natural cavities is the smallest and most common falcon in North America, the American Kestrel (Falco sparverius). White color to relfect sun/heat.
